چکیده

Nanosized gel particles (nanogels) are of interest for a variety of applications, including drug delivery and singlemolecule encapsulation. Here, we employ the cores of nanoscale liposomes as reaction vessels to template the assembly of calcium alginate nanogels. For our experiments, a liposome formulation with a high bilayer melting temperature (Tm) is selected, and sodium alginate is encapsulated in the liposomal core. The liposomes are then placed in an aqueous buffer containing calcium chloride, and the temperature is raised up to Tm. This allows permeation of Ca2+ ions through the bilayer and into the core, whereupon these ions gel the encapsulated alginate. Subsequently, the lipid bilayer covering the gelled core is removed by the addition of a detergent. The resulting alginate nanogels have a size distribution consistent with that of the template liposomes (ca. 120-200 nm), as confirmed by transmission electron microscopy and light scattering. Nanogels of different average sizes can be synthesized by varying the template dimensions, and the gel size can be further tuned after synthesis by the addition of monovalent salt to the solution.

A Dynamic Combinatorial Approach for Identifying Side Groups that Stabilize DNA-Templated Supramolecular Self-Assemblies

DNA-templated self-assembly is an emerging strategy for generating functional supramolecular systems, which requires the identification of potent multi-point binding ligands. In this line, we recently showed that bis-functionalized guanidinium compounds can interact with ssDNA and generate a supramolecular complex through the recognition of the phosphodiester backbone of DNA. In order to probe ...

Nanofiber formation from sequence-selective DNA-templated self-assembly of a thymidylic acid-appended bolaamphiphile.

Quaternary self-assembly of a thymidylic acid-appended bolaamphiphile, with heteropolymeric DNA as a template, produced supramolecular helical nanofibers in the presence of specific target DNA.

Arrangement of palladium nanoparticles templated by supramolecular self-assembly of SDS wrapped on single-walled carbon nanotubes.

We report a facile route to selectively deposit and arrange palladium (Pd) nanoparticles on single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) having sub 10 nm diameter by using supramolecular self-assembly of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as a soft template.

Cucurbit[8]uril templated supramolecular ring structure formation and protein assembly modulation.

The interplay of Phe-Gly-Gly (FGG)-tagged proteins and bivalent FGG-tagged penta(ethylene glycol) as guest molecules with cucurbit[8]uril (Q8) hosts is studied to modulate the supramolecular assembly process. Ring structure formation of the bivalent guest molecule with Q8 leads to enhanced binding properties and efficient inhibition of protein assemblies.
